Flexibility: Letting Go of Resistance in Times of Change

This month, we're called to honor the energy of flexibility. Flexibility doesn't mean bending to the will of others or even yielding to our inner critic.

Instead, it’s about being like the willow—bending gently with the tide, allowing anything that causes pressure or pain to move around us and flow effortlessly down the river.

Recently, the theme of resistance has been surfacing—not the obvious kind, but a more subtle form. Many of us miss it entirely, at least consciously—yet our bodies and emotions feel every bit of it. It shows up as suffering, grief, depression, and emotional pain.

We use the energy of resistance to protect ourselves. It’s a natural response to pain or the desire to avoid it. Have you ever fallen off a bike and skinned your knee? The thought makes you cringe, doesn’t it? For a while after, every time you get back on the bike, your body tenses up. That’s resistance, self-protection—a natural response to pain.

But resistance, in any form, can become a habit. Over time, it turns into a subtle (or not-so-subtle) niggle—a small, persistent annoyance that causes mental, physical, or spiritual discomfort. And that's no fun!

Here’s the thing: we’re in a time of great change and growth. It’s not going away. We’re in it, and it’s going to continue—the cat is out of the bag, and there’s no turning back. The profound healing (or upheaval) you've been experiencing will keep shaping your life. This is the new normal.

And it’s here, right in the middle of the pain and upheaval, where we can invite the energy of flexibility.

The energy of flexibility reminds us that while we may not be able to change certain circumstances, we can become more skillful at riding the waves of change and allowing the pain to flow gently down the river.

Flexibility teaches us to hang out with discomfort. Over time, this helps us naturally become more neutral to the energy of pain. The more neutral we become, the more empowered and joyful we are—and this gives rise to more freedom in our lives.

So this month, whatever growth journey you're on, lean in, be like the willow, and let the struggle, pain, and resistance flow down the river. I promise, while struggle is part of life, it is not the purpose of life. It’s okay to let that %#$ go.

Much love,

Lisa
